Potential West Ham fixture change leaves supporters in limbo

Liverpool fans face a nightmare over travel and planning for the team’s away fixture at West Ham United next month.

This game was changed initially for television to Monday, 4 February, kick off 8pm –  a nightmare to travelling fans, who have to take time off work and have no means of returning to Liverpool via public transport.

Now it transpires this date and time are no longer confirmed. It is possible the match will be moved again, this time to Sunday, 3 February, kick off 12pm. Another ridiculous ordeal for travelling fans given the distance from surrounding stations and logistics of entering the Olympic Stadium.

This change depends on West Ham’s  result in their FA Cup against AFC Wimbledon, which will not be played until the evening of Saturday, 26 January. This means Liverpool supporters will have to change plans and travel, much of which could be already paid for, and will have just one week in which to do so.

Once again football’s loyal fans have been given zero consideration by the game’s authorities and the very broadcasters who depend on the support to create an atmosphere to make their show a success.

Spirit of Shankly believe all match dates and times should be immovable once published and that supporters should be receiving adequate notice of fixtures. Fans first, not TV schedules and profit. We will seek talks with LFC, the FA and the Premier League and update any information as we get it.
