Cancelled flight follow-up
The result may not have gone our way, but for the majority of Liverpool supporters who made it to Kyiv for the Champions League final, it was the culmination of an exciting season following the Reds. But, there are also many fans who never made it after their flights were cancelled.
Liverpool FC announced last week they would refund the cost of match tickets to those affected by Worldchoice cancellations. Fans had to apply for this by 25 May. But other flight and travel companies also cancelled flights last-minute leaving supporters unable to find alternative arrangements.
If any supporters are having ongoing difficulties with match-ticket refunds, get in touch here.
The logistical nightmare and extortionate costs – travel, hiked hotel prices and the match ticket itself – of getting to Kyiv have been well documented. These follows on from ticket-price profiteering in earlier rounds of the competition with Liverpool fans paying inflated prices at Sevilla, Porto and Roma.
Fans follow their club unconditionally and are often exploited for it. It is time this stopped and we work together to find solutions.
Spirit of Shankly propose the formation of a European Away Forum in conjunction with the club. This is not a time for recriminations, but a chance to progress and help protect fans in the coming seasons. For any members who experienced flight and other travel cancellations, if you would like to send your details here we will collate all information.
We will keep you informed, but in the meantime thanks for your continued support and have a great summer.
