SOS Cup & Glenbuck restoration
One of our aims as a Union was to protect and preserve Shankly’s legacy for younger generations of fans.
In 2009 we were contacted for support after the Shankly memorial in Glenbuck was recently damaged by joy-riders crashing a car into the memorial. We kept in touch and made a first visit to Glenbuck as a union, as featured in Shankly Natures Fire.
In September 2019 we were delighted and honoured to return to attend the ceremony of the restoration of the Glenbuck Heritage Site, which included the unveiling of a new memorial to Bill Shankly.
14 December 2019 marked 60 years since Bill Shankly arrived at Liverpool. Shankly’s plans from the beginning were to transform the Reds, elevating them from a second-tier side, at the time, to one of the biggest names in European football.
Shanklys legacy video
To commemorate this anniversary and to the launch of the Spirit of Shankly Cup SOS commissioned a short film.
Former Shankly players Chris Lawler and Ian Callaghan plus Shankly’s granddaughter Karen Gill, ‘Voice Of Anfield’ George Sephton and writer Simon Hughes, give their insight into Shankly’s impact and legacy.
Spirit of Shankly were honoured to attend the ceremony of the restoration of the Glenbuck Heritage Site, including the unveiling of a new memorial to Bill Shankly.
