Walking Camino de Santiago for Prostate Cancer Awareness and Support

The Camino de Santiago is a unique journey that has captured the hearts and minds of pilgrims and travellers for centuries: a cultural, emotional and physical adventure meeting fellow devotees from around the world.

Also known as the Way of St. James, it is made up of a series of historic walking paths that wind across Europe converging in the city of Santiago de Compostela, located in northwestern Galicia, Spain.

In September, SOS MC member Ian Byrne and former MC members Stephen Monaghan, Kieth Culvin and John Nicolson joined more than 50 others from Liverpool to walk the Camino to raise money for prostate cancer support.

They walked the final part of the Portuguese Way over six days, starting where the Portuguese town of Valença and Spanish town of Tui sit either side of the Minho River.

Also in the group was lifelong Liverpool supporter and SOS member Brian Omar. Brian has prostate cancer and with other men with the disease he formed Lads at Larks.

Lads At Larks meet every few weeks at the Marina Dalglish Appeal centre called Larks, in Liverpool. Their primary aims are to help each other through their prostate cancer journey and raise awareness of the disease so that others will get tested.

The group also raise funds for the MDA, specifically to go towards robotic surgery equipment for the treatment of both prostate and kidney cancer.

Walking the Camino raised a lot of money for Lads at Larks and the group would like to thank Spirit of Shankly and their members for the many generous donations and messages of support they received.

Please spread the word to all your male family and friends aged over 50 to ask their GP for a PSA blood test. It could save their life.
