Answers needed over Napoli policing
Before Liverpool FC’s match at Anfield against Napoli in the Champions League on Wednesday, 27 November, photos were shared on social media showing large groups of Napoli supporters carrying weapons in Liverpool city centre.
Later, as kick-off approached, there were a number of incidents of Napoli fans attacking LFC fans close to the stadium and outside of the Albert pub – the same location where Sean Cox was attacked and seriously injured before LFC’s game against Roma in 2018.
Spirit of Shankly take our supporters safety seriously, and we will always raise concerns over the policing of such matches.
When LFC travelled to Naples in September, our fans were given strict instructions as to where they could go, how they had to travel to the stadium and at what time. It seems none of these was reciprocated on Wednesday.
We have asked Merseyside Police for immediate feedback as to why these incidents were allowed to happen and a full debrief on the policing of this fixture. We will keep you informed.
