Spirit of Shankly wrote to the Chair of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee Julian Knight MP earlier this month regarding the untrue parallels he had drawn between Hillsborough and chaotic scenes at Wembley before the Euro 2020 final.

Knight had said on a TV news programme that “the crush was awfully reminiscent of Hillsborough”. SOS Chair Joe Blott wrote asking he apologise for the false narrative. Knight has now replied and a copy of his letter can be seen below.

He has totally missed the point.

MP for West Derby and SOS committee member Ian Byrne has now asked for a meeting with Knight following parliamentary recess. We look forward to the chance to enlighten him.
