Since the deal was signed and Thomas Cook have been involved with Liverpool Football Club they have cancelled over 50% of the organised trips to games abroad citing “operational” reasons for the cancellations. In real terms , this is likely to mean they have been unable to fill planes due to their high prices . While they see nothing wrong with cancelling trips at such short notice, the biggest losers are the supporters, and the Club appear willing to allow them to let people down on a continuous basis . Supporters are losing out across the board including having to rearrange flights at short notice, additional days off work, general inconvenience and sometimes missing out on trips altogether. The fact that supporters are being treated with such contempt by one of Club’s biggest sponsors, with the Club unwilling to question their practices, does raise many questions about how supporters are valued.

Last season Thomas Cook cancelled an organised train to Wembley for the Carling Cup Final, once again citing operational reasons, and letting down numerous fans. Yet the same company happily charge anything from £150 to £550 for their “Matchday Experience Trips” which consists of a ticket, match day programme and a one night stay in a 3* or 4* hotel with the Club standing by and letting them rip off or completely let their supporters down.

With the current financial situation affecting many supporters, we call on the Club to hold talks with Thomas Cook to ensure that they provide real value for money for LFC supporters and sanction what amounts to legalised touting by Thomas Cook.

We would hope that as we start another European adventure, that Liverpool Football Club will take a more pro-active role in how its supporters are treated by their main travel partner.

Representatives of the Union are willing to engage into dialogue with Thomas Cook and the Club in an effort to improve this situation to try and ensure a better deal for our supporters .
