Stop Exploiting Loyalty: A Letter To Liverpool FC

Below is a public version of a letter Spirit of Shankly and other LFC supporter groups sent to Liverpool FC regarding ticket pricing for the 2026/27 season:

WE are writing to present the Stop Exploiting Loyalty Blueprint.

This document, recently presented in parliament and the subject of an Early Day Motion at Westminster, sets out the national context facing matchgoing supporters and the growing concerns around affordability, concessions and the long-term direction of football.

All supporter organisations across the Premier League are asking their clubs the same question: Will you freeze general admission and season-ticket prices for the 2026/27 season?

We had intended to raise this directly at the Supporters’ Board meeting scheduled for January 18, as has been the case previously at this time of year. But, having been informed that the club were not yet prepared for meaningful engagement on this issue, the SB collectively felt the meeting should not go ahead.

The coordinated action taking place across the country, including engagement with the Premier League and broadcasters, reflects the pressures set out in the Blueprint: rises in ticket prices in recent years, the erosion of concessionary categories and the growing share of disposable income football-loving families need to attend a match. At the same time, Premier League clubs are benefitting from record commercial and broadcast revenues.

With no meaningful response from the Premier League, attention has been directed back to club level with national supporter groups appealing directly to their clubs to show leadership. Liverpool are well placed to do this.

Last season’s decision to freeze prices at Anfield was the right one and widely recognised as such. However, the wider picture remains stark: 13 clubs raised prices for this season and concessions continue to be reduced. Supporters are being asked more and more to absorb increases that are neither essential nor proportionate.

The Blueprint is clear that further price rises are a choice, not a financial necessity. Matchday income represents a relatively small proportion of total revenue yet comes at the expense of affordability, loyalty and trust. This will serve only to accelerate the erosion of matchgoing communities that remain English football’s defining point of difference.

With this in mind, we ask that you confirm, directly and unambiguously: Will the club freeze general admission and season-ticket prices for the 2026/27 season? We also ask that you give a definitive position at the earliest possible opportunity.

Last year, following engagement with the Supporters Board, the club announced a price freeze on February 17, and SOS would like to update our members, who continue to advocate for fair ticket prices, at our AGM on January 31.

We believe clarity benefits supporters and sends a strong message that LFC value and protect those who make Anfield what it is. Liverpool took the lead last year, and will hopefully do so again to show that protecting the bond between club and supporters matters more than marginal revenue gains.

Yours
