Ticket Collections

European away game ticket collections This week, LFC announced selling arrangements for the Champions League fixture away to Rangers on 12 October and that some supporters will have to collect their tickets on arrival in Glasgow. Spirit of Shankly remain completely opposed to ticket collections for European away games. We, along with other supporter groups, made the strongest representation to the club, but they have decided to proceed. There are multiple reasons for opposing ticket collections, but the main one is that they destroy the matchday experience. They are a total inconvenience to fans who [...]

September Newsletter

September Newsletter This is our latest newsletter update on the various activities we have been involved in recently. SUPPORTERS BOARD The Supporters Board launched on 17 August. The main aspect is that we, on behalf of supporters, will be informed of proposed major changes, consulted on significant proposals and able to say yes, or no, on existential issues affecting LFC, such as joining a breakaway league. Crucially this is embedded in the club’s Articles of Association, effectively future proofing if and when there is a change of ownership. These are exciting, ground-breaking times. We are grateful for the input we have already had [...]

The Derby – Enough is Enough

The Derby - Enough is Enough The Derby. The big one. The one we all look forward to. The one where the actual game has become a sideshow to the noise and vitriol surrounding it. Racism, violence, homophobia, the dead mocked with actions, chants, flags, memorials defaced, murals vandalised … All of it indefensible. There is no argument in it being ‘just a minority’. The minority is growing, we’ve crossed a line. On Saturday, in response to the recent gun crime and tragic deaths of a nine-year-old girl and others, a banner was unfurled at [...]

Bill Shankly’s Letter from 1968

Supporter Donates Shankly's 1968 Letter to SOS Lifelong Liverpool FC supporter Steven Steel recently contacted Spirit of Shankly regarding a letter from Bill Shankly that had been written in 1968. Steven said: "The letter was left to me by my brother, Anthony Steel. After his unfortunate accident and passing on 30 March 1972, I discovered the letter in his autograph book. I had it framed and it has been on my wall for many years. I recently reframed it as I wanted to gift the letter to the Spirit Of Shankly supporters union because as Karen [...]

European Ticket Collection

European Ticket Collection Ahead of the Champions League draw today, Liverpool FC have ‘reminded’ fans of their plan to continue with ticket collection for European away games this season. A plan that means travelling supporters have to collect their match ticket in a specified location somewhere in the city where the fixture will be played, most usually on the day of the game. Spirit of Shankly are completely opposed to this practice. LFC’s changes to ticket policy for European matches, made to tackle ticket misuse, have an unreasonable impact on match going fans. These away [...]

Supporters Board

Supporters Board Launch Today, Wednesday 17 August 2022, Spirit Of Shankly enters into a new era of fan engagement. One that will bring challenge, opportunity and renewed hope with the potential to define the future and set an example for others to follow. And one, most crucially, that gives us the supporters a fundamental and legally binding role in Liverpool FC’s decision-making processes for the first time in the club’s history. Just over a year ago three days, in April 2021, shook football to its core. The European Super League — an initiative designed to [...]

LFC Members Policy Update

The Latest Following consultation with the Supporters Forum, LFC’s recent change in policy for members and future credits left many supporters angry and frustrated. In response, we stated that we understood the club’s desire to help a greater number of existing members, but had concerns over the implementation – verified by the number of fans who contacted us – and went back to the club for discussion. To be clear, there were Spirit of Shankly committee members on the Supporters Forum, who were involved in initial discussions. At that time, SOS did secure significant movement [...]
