Anniversary of fans uniting against ticket prices

Anniversary of fans uniting against ticket prices Today marks the 10th anniversary of football fans putting their differences aside and uniting to march on the Premier League headquarters in protest at the rising cost of away tickets. On 19 June 2013, spearheaded by Spirit of Shankly and the Football Supporters Federation, rival fans of top-flight clubs congregated at London’s Regent Park and marched to Gloucester Place, the then home of the Premier League. It was the culmination of an ongoing campaign to make the authorities listen as away-supporter ticket prices had spiralled – at that [...]

Message from SOS Chair Joe Blott

Message from SOS Chair Joe Blott Dear Colleagues I am writing to inform you that I am standing aside as Chair of Spirit of Shankly with effect from 06.06.2023, though I will remain on the Management Committee. Being Chair of SOS has been an enormous honour and privilege. A tribute to Dan Kay

A tribute to Dan Kay We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Dan Kay and send our sympathies to his family and friends. Dan was a tireless campaigner for social justice and those in need, and will forever be remembered for his work fighting for the families and survivors of Hillsborough. A committed journalist and constant support to those affected, he covered the 2014 - 2016 warrington inquests that concluded all those who died on 15 April 1989 were unlawfully killed, reporting live for the Liverpool Echo. He co-wrote, with the late [...]

Abdication of leadership by Premier League and Liverpool FC

Abdication of leadership by Premier League and Liverpool FC The playing of the national anthem before the match at Anfield on Saturday was met with a cacophony of disapproval, boos morphing into chants of Liverpool and eventually, after its abandonment, You’ll Never Walk Alone. There will have been some who didn’t voice condemnation, but the majority did. And the Anfield crowd’s reaction will have surprised nobody. So why did the hierarchy of Liverpool FC decide to play it?  The club were left in a near-impossible situation. There was no mandate from the Premier League, just [...]

It is they who have decided to impose these price increases. To be clear, the LFC Supporters Board were unanimous in their opposition to any proposed ticket price increases and this remains our position. To [...]

Real Madrid away

Same old story Liverpool play Real Madrid on Wednesday, 15 March. For those travelling fans it should, as always when following the Reds in Europe, be a trip to look forward to. A mini holiday or day trip that, no matter the result, is fun, a laugh, an experience.  This upcoming trip? Not so carefree.  Alongside the dismal, reduced allocation and derisory number of disabled bays that prevents hundreds, who should have qualified under UEFA rules, from travelling, Real Madrid have charged the maximum ticket price they can.  There are to be 100% ticket collections. [...]
