Recent supporter issues
In recent weeks, an alarmingly large number of members and supporters have contacted Spirit of Shankly regarding issues at the match. These have been both personal and witnessed. Incidents have been wide-ranging, including suspension or revoking of tickets due to allegations of using foul language, behaviour during the game and alleged misuse of tickets.
Given the severity of these incidents, SOS contacted the club to raise concerns and discuss a way forward. We have met club officials, who have been willing to listen and engage with us, and there is recognition that current ways of working on the above are not fit for purpose. The club have committed to start working with SOS and supporters immediately to ensure there are fair and robust processes in place. This is a welcome step forward for everyone.
SOS have already helped some supporters have their bans overturned and are continuing to work with others.
Following events during the recent game against Watford, we also welcome the club’s announcement that they are to review what happened. The supporter involved has not received any sanctions and the club are clear that they intend taking no further action. This will the same for others who are alarmed at what happened during that match.
It is right and proper that the club continue their review, and SOS will continue play our part ensuring supporter voices are heard and positive changes made.
If any supporter does experience problems, or has ongoing issues, they can contact us via Twitter or email [email protected] to discuss these.
