Spirit of Shankly – Premier League meeting
On Friday 14th May representatives of the Spirit of Shankly Management Committee met with Premier League Chief Executive Richard Scudamore and some of his staff at their London headquarters.
Martin Broughton – Request to meet
Following our recent letter to Martin Broughton requesting a meeting, and the information passed to us via Ian Ayre that we would not granted our request for a meeting, we have received direct correspondence from our new Chairman.
Martin, you can do the minutes
The Spirit of Shankly can confirm that their members' hard work in pressurising the Premier League to consider Liverpool FC's current predicament has paid off with Premier League Chief Executive, Richard Scudamore, inviting a delegation from the Spirit of Shankly to a meeting with him at Premier League Headquarters in London next week.
For sale – but where now?
Spirit Of Shankly welcomes the news that Tom Hicks and George Gillett have begun the process of leaving Liverpool Football Club. This is something that we have campaigned for over the last two years - for them to sell the club and leave. It seems the cent has finally dropped with the realisation that they aren't wanted or welcome at our club. They haven't been since they broke their promises, told lies and manoeuvred the Club into its current state.
Leaving on a jet plane?
In another week where the name of Liverpool Football Club has become a byword for embarrassment, mismanagement and everything that is wrong off the field in the modern game, we have reports that Martin Broughton, Chairman of British Airways, is to become the Club's Independent Chairman to settle the continuing squabbles between Liverpool FC's warring owners.
Debts, deadlines, lies and sales
On the pitch, Liverpool move into yet another European semi-final. Off the pitch, we move even further into a financial unknown, with more twists, more speculation and more actions that leave questions rather than answers.
Tom and George – Fit and proper?
The failure by the Premier League to take into account the track record of Tom and George when establishing them as 'fit and proper' is naïve at best and criminal at worst. It is time for those who regulate the game to do what they should have done three years ago - Look at exactly who and what Tom Hicks and George Gillett are really about.
Frying pan and fire?
The Spirit of Shankly are aware of credible reports that Liverpool Football Club may be subject to significant investment from the Rhone Group - an organisation described variously as an "investment vehicle" or "hedge fund".
SOS statement on RBS boycott in press
The Spirit Of Shankly, the Liverpool Supporters' Union, is aware of plans by several Liverpool fans to launch a boycott of the Royal Bank of Scotland and its products and services should they refinance the current debts of Liverpool Football Club.
Football Quarter press conference
On 12th March, SOS and KEIOC will be holding a press conference to announce the Football Quarter proposal as discussed at our AGM.
Direct action banners
As part of the ongoing campaign to ensure that Tom Hicks and George Gillett are made not welcome at Anfield, we would like to urge our members, and Liverpool fans, to keep in mind the need for a visual message of what we as fans want - Hicks and Gillett out.
Press report
The Spirit of Shankly, the Liverpool Supporters' Union, have been made aware of reports in today's Daily Mail of a proposed joint initiative between fans of Liverpool FC and Manchester United and "that talks between key fan groups from each side of the great divide have already taken place."
Tom Hicks – Everton
The Spirit of Shankly Management Committee have been asked by members about any planned protests for the match against Everton tomorrow.
Protests and investors
Following the Management Committee's recent meeting with Christian Purslow, and the controversy over Mr Purslow denying the Committee's minutes of that meeting, we would like to clarify our position regarding protests and potential investment.
SOS comment on Christian Purslow
Members now have the chance to review the two versions of the minutes of the meeting the Union Management Committee had with Christian Purslow on the 21st January. While we welcome the dialogue we have with the senior management at the Club it was disappointing that time on the evening was limited and the Club was not able to agree the minutes in good time or at all, afterwards.
