FSG: We need direction

In light of recent events surrounding Liverpool Football Club, Spirit of Shankly has been in contact with the club to gain an understanding of what the owner’s strategy may be moving forward. Spirit of Shankly has always held the position that it is not our place to be picking and choosing individual managers, our duty is to represent our members in demanding that the Club has an executive structure in place that can effectively support the manager, whoever that may be.

Honda representatives at MUFC

Following several emails of complaint from members regarding representatives from Honda in the Liverpool end at Old Trafford, Spirit of Shankly contacted the Club to establish how these individuals managed to secure tickets to a fixture where our allocation had been reduced to only 2,100 due to licencing restrictions imposed on MUFC.

Paul Rice. 1957 – 2012

When over three hundred of us crammed into the backroom of The Sandon pub four years ago, not many expected us to be where we are today. The future of our football club looked bleak and worry and desperation crept in as we debated and argued about what was best for the football club. In the next few months and years, our worst fears came true, as the problems in the boardroom meant success on the pitch ground to a halt. No cup finals, no trophies. Now, 4 years on from that historic meeting, supporters are back doing what they do best - planning trips to cup finals and talking of silverware again. Sadly though, not all those who have helped us achieve this moment will be there to witness it. Tomorrow, Paul Rice, our Vice Chair, Honorary Vice President and former Chairman, will be laid to rest following his death on 21st January 2012.

SOS statement on recent events

Recent events surrounding the FA charge against Luis Suarez have brought racism in football to the forefront of the news agenda. Unlike others, who have chosen to make ill-informed comments, Spirit of Shankly does not feel qualified to make public pronouncements on what is essentially a player discipline issue to be dealt with by club, player and the FA as they see fit.
