Supporters Board
On Wednesday 17 August 2022 Spirit of Shankly and Liverpool Football Club entered a new era of fan engagement with the launch of the Supporters Board – a groundbreaking move that sees fan representation at board level.
The Supporters Board will bring challenge, opportunity and renewed hope with the potential to define the future of our club and set an example for others to follow. Most crucially, it gives us the supporters a fundamental, legally binding role in Liverpool FC’s decision-making processes for the first time in the club’s history.
Formation
The development came after extensive consultation with between representatives from Liverpool FC and Spirit of Shankly, the club’s recognised Supporters Trust. The arrangement was confirmed with nearly 99 per cent of SOS members voting in favour of the new engagement model.
Liverpool FC commented, “The board has been developed as part of the club’s commitment to strengthen dialogue with supporters and increase the involvement of fans in decision-making processes in order to ensure engagement is more robust and effective. As such, the new process will be put in place to enable deeper consultation with supporters on fan-facing strategic decisions.”
Who is represented?
The Supporters Board consists of 10 Spirit of Shankly committee members, plus six other representatives drawn from other fan organisations covering the interests of Liverpool’s diverse global supporter base.
The fan groups are Liverpool Disabled Supporters Association, Kop Outs, Spion Kop 1906, Official Liverpool Supporters Clubs, Liverpool Women’s Supporters Committee, and Faith and Ethnicity.
